The Charlie Hebdo Mohammed cartoons: Media outlets shy away or take a stand

The terrorist attack Wednesday on a satirical newspaper in Paris has left media outlets weighing the value of republishing the cartoons that allegedly triggered the killing of 12 Charlie Hebdo editors and cartoonists.
 
Some major news outlets, including CNN, The Associated Press, NBC, ABC and the New York Times have landed on the side of "sensitivity," citing decisions to not republish cartoons or images deemed "deliberately provocative," "insensitive" or "offensive," CNNMoney reports.
 
Other news organizations have called that censorship, the report states. Many have published individual Charlie Hebdo cartoons or created slide show collections, citing both the news value of showing them so that people can understand the context, as well as declaring the republications a show of support and solidarity for the Charlie Hebdo staff and free speech in general. Business Insider, the Huffington Post, the Daily Beast and the Washington Post are among outlets that have chosen to publish the cartoons.
