Also ranked as the richest man in the world, Bill Gates topped the list with a net worth of $79.6 billion, less than 13 percent of which comes from stock in Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT), according to Forbes.
No. 2 is Larry Ellison, founder, chairman and chief technology officer of Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL), a database software firm. Although the company’s fiscal 2015 revenues were slightly down at $38.2 billion compared to the previous year, Ellison’s net worth is an estimated $50 billion.
Rounding out the top three spots is Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos with $47.8 billion, some 90 percent of which comes from his 18 percent stake in the company. Since the beginning of the year, Bezos’ net worth has increased by $13 million.
Only seven women made the top 100 list, the wealthiest of which is Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple Inc. founder Steve Jobs, with $21.4 billion. The average age of the top 100 group is 53, while 15 of those listed are under the age of 40.
