Thailand seizes 4 tons of elephant tusks smuggled from Congo

Thailand seized 4 tons of ivory hidden in bean sacks tracked from Congo in what authorities said was the biggest bust in the country’s history, customs officials said Monday.

The Associated Press reports the 739 elephant tusks were on their way to Laos. They were seized upon arrival at a port in Bangkok on Saturday after authorities were tipped off.

The shipment reportedly moved out of Congo in February and traveled through Malaysia before reaching Bangkok.
