Texas Gov. Perry turns himself in on felony charges

Gov. Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history, turned himself in amid the cheers of supporters at the Travis County Courthouse on Tuesday to face two felony counts of abuse of power.

"I believe in the rule of law," he told the crowd. "We will prevail."

According to USA Today, Perry, who is considering a presidential run in 2016, denies the charges against him brought on in an indictment last Friday.

The charges allege Perry misused his office by improperly threatening to and then withholding state funds for a program run by a county prosecutor unless she resigned.
