Tesla to open up all patents

Tesla announced Thursday it will open up all current and future patents "for the advancement of electric vehicle technology," CNBC reports.

In a blog post, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, "Tesla will not initiate patent lawsuits against anyone who, in good faith, wants to use our technology."

According to CNBC, Tesla's goal in opening its patents would be to allow other automakers to piggyback on Tesla's knowledge, creating greater demand for electric cars and leading Tesla to benefit by selling even more.
