Tesla to buy SolarCity for $2.6B in stock

It's official. Tesla Motors signed a deal to buy solar panel installer SolarCity for $2.6 billion in shares.

Tesla made an offer in June, but a deal was not certain because SolarCity had formed a special committee to review the offer.

The offer equates to about $25.83 per share.
