Tesla sues California DMV

Tesla has sued California’s Department of Motor Vehicles in an attempt to reverse a ruling that the company violated the law through its marketing of cars’ self-driving capabilities.

The state’s Office of Administrative Hearings two months ago found Tesla violated the law by engaging in false advertising. While the DMV was able to suspend Tesla's licenses to make or sell cars in the state, it instead asked Tesla to clean up its marketing language; Tesla reportedly followed that task appropriately.

However, in the lawsuit, Tesla claims the agency “wrongfully and baselessly” labeled Tesla a “false advertiser” for using the terms "autopilot" and "full self-driving."
