Tesla Inc. shares were up more than 20% in after-hour trading Wednesday after the company posted surprise quarterly profits.
Tesla's net income came to $143 million in the third quarter, down from $311 million a year earlier.
Adjusted net income was $342 million, or $1.91 per share. Analysts expected an adjusted loss of 46 cents per share.
