The S&P Dow Jones Indices yesterday announced Tesla is joining the S&P 500.
Based on its closing prices yesterday, Tesla immediately would be among the top 10 most valuable companies on the S&P 500. The electric car maker is slated to join the list on Dec. 21.
Tesla recently reported its fifth consecutive quarter of profits.
