Tesco Bank halted online payments for current customers after money was stolen from 20,000 accounts.
Officials with the banking division of Britain's biggest supermarket chain said 40,000 accounts saw suspicious transactions over the weekend. About half of them had money taken.
Bank officials said the theft was due to "online criminal activity."
