Tech firms pop Coke's hold on top brand list

Posted online
After 13 years at the top, Coca-Cola might still be the real thing, but it’s not the most valuable brand anymore, according to the New York Times.

In a recently released report by Omnicom Group’s corporate brand-consulting and identity corporation, Interbrand, Apple is now ranked the No. 1 brand in the world. Coca-Cola, which has held the top spot since the Best Global Brand report’s inception in 2000, fell to No. 3.

Financial performance is a top criteria on the ranking list, and the report estimates the Apple brand improved 28 percent compared to last year’s report, to more than $98 billion. Coca-Cola’s value went up 2 percent, to just more than $79 billion.

Further illustrating technology’s foothold in the Best Global Brands list, Google came in at No. 2, up from No. 4 in 2012.
