Teamster walkout could disrupt economy 'far and wide'

Truck drivers at ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach walked off the job Tuesday to protest unfair working conditions and intimidation by employers, CNNMoney reports.
 
The drivers, considered independent contractors, are supported by the Teamsters union in their protest of pay they say is below minimum wage, wrongful termination and discipline for supporting unionization.
 
A prolonged strike at the southern California ports could have a negative effect on the economy, analysts state, because more than 40 percent of imports to the U.S. arrive there.
