Tax season could be worst in years

Posted online
As if tax season isn't rough enough on tax payers and accountants, settling up with the IRS this year might be the toughest it's been since 1985, according to a report by CNNMoney.

Like a lot of tax payers, the IRS is wrestling with a smaller operating budget, fewer staff who are undertrained, complex rules and an increasing workload. Add in the issues associated with the Affordable Care Act, and you can expect the IRS's customer service to struggle to address tax-payer problems.

The report states nearly half of calls made to the IRS won't be answered during the filing season; those who can get through will be kept waiting more than a half-hour before connecting with an actual person. And if you're getting a refund this year, don't expect to receive it in a timely manner. There's no word on how long refunds will be delayed, just that they will be.
