Over 20 businesses are expected to participate in an annual restaurant sampling event this weekend in downtown Springfield.

The 16th annual Taste of SoMo returns to Park Central Square on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Presented by SGC Foodservice and managed by the Downtown Springfield Association, the event is expected to draw 5,000-7,000 visitors, said DSA spokesperson Hailey Magnus.

Although Magnus said exact attendance numbers are difficult to track at the free=admission event, she estimated 5,000 people came to last year’s Taste of SoMo. At the event, visitors can spend $10 for a sheet of 10 tickets, which they can then exchange for samples from each of the restaurants. The tickets also are good for drink purchases.

Taste of SoMo donates $1 to Ozarks Food Harvest for every sheet of tickets sold. Ozarks Food Harvest serves 270 hunger-relief organizations across 28 counties in southwest Missouri, reaching nearly 50,000 individuals weekly, according to the release. Ozarks Food Harvest can provide four meals from each dollar donated. Attendees can donate any unused tickets at the event to provide additional funds for the nonprofit.

Last year’s Taste of SoMo raised $1,150 for Ozarks Food Harvest, Magnus said.
