I believe true leadership requires a delicate balance of heart and mind. Leading with compassion means acknowledging the human factors we all share – the uncertainty when facing challenges, the disappointment when plans go awry. In my experience, the strongest women leaders don’t just solve problems; they equip their teams with strategies to overcome obstacles and transform setbacks into learning opportunities. My father, who was honored as one of Ford Motor Co.’s top 50 salesmen in the United States in 1977, showed me what genuine leadership looks like. He taught me that leadership decisions impact people’s lives. His belief in me, and his willingness to push me beyond my comfort zone, has shaped not only my success but how I now guide others toward their full potential.
One of my core leadership principles is the importance of self-understanding and humility. I’ve learned that deeply understanding yourself – both strengths and weaknesses – and being willing to share them openly can be incredibly empowering for teams. While showing vulnerability, particularly as a woman leader, might feel risky, I’ve found that acknowledging areas where you need support actually creates stronger partnerships and more productive teams.
My mentoring style centers on empathy, active listening, and a genuine commitment to my team’s development. I create an environment of trust where team members feel empowered to take initiative, knowing they have my support. I often share one of my favorite mantras: “Sometimes you win – sometimes you learn, but you never lose!” This mindset encourages emerging leaders to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than failures.
