Takata to pay $1B to settle US airbag probe

Japan's Takata Corp. is expected to plead guilty to criminal wrongdoing as early as today and pay a $1 billion settlement to the United States, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The settlement is linked to Takata's handling of airbag ruptures linked to 16 deaths worldwide.

In addition to money, the settlement requires an independent monitor to be appointed to oversee Takata.
