Takata shares fall on reports of potential bankruptcy

Takata shares fell sharply on Tuesday following media reports the troubled Japanese airbag maker is weighing a U.S. bankruptcy filing.

Citing people familiar with the matter, The Wall Street Journal reported late last week that Takata's U.S. arm would seek protection from creditors in a federal bankruptcy court under preliminary plans being discussed.

The company is said to be facing huge costs related to the global recall of millions of potentially faulty airbags.
