Taco Habitat LLC opened in Springfield today after multiple delays.
The concept owned by restaurateur Michael Felts announced the launch on Facebook. Its menu includes street tacos, tortas, quesadillas, bowls and breakfast items.
Located in 3,000 square feet of recycled shipping containers, Taco Habitat operates at 3325 S. Glenstone Ave. in Glenstone Marketplace. The building was constructed in North Carolina by Boxman Studios, which also served as architect and project engineer for the roughly $2 million project, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.
The Taco Habitat concept originally had been slated to open in January, but a roof leak in the shipping containers delayed the debut. Felts also previously told SBJ that the COVID-19 pandemic had stalled his plans.
Felts also is working on a Taco Habitat restaurant in Branson. He was unavailable for comment immediately by deadline.
Before the Springfield restaurant's opening today, Felts in June launched Bourbon & Beale at 2639 S. Glenstone Ave. He also owns Hot Cluckers, which opened in 2018 and is preparing a second Springfield location.
Heirloom Candle Bar moved; art supply thrift store Arrow Creative Reuse opened; and Rockford, Illinois-based Beef-A-Roo debuted in Springfield.
