T-Mobile at a crossroads

If federal regulators approve the $32 billion merger of Sprint and T-Mobile, the combined company would have nearly as many subscribers as AT&T and Verizon, according to CNNMoney.
 
Sprint and T-Mobile argue the merger is necessary to allow fair competition in the telecommunications industry; skeptics worry the merger would just create another giant telecom company.
 
T-Mobile's "uncarrier" marketing campaign that eliminates contracts, some charges and pays customers to switch to T-Mobile has increased its market share and number of subcribers, and forced competitors to respond with similar strategies, the report states.
