Swiss National Bank warns of $10B loss

The Swiss National Bank Monday said a huge drop in the value of its gold holdings would push it to a $10 billion loss, suggesting more investors would feel the brunt of the biggest fall in the price of the precious metal in three decades.

The Wall Street Journal reports the value of the SNB's gold holdings dropped by 15 billion Swiss francs ($16.6 billion) in 2013.

Gold, often used as a haven investment, began falling in the spring amid speculation the U.S. Federal Reserve would scale back its bond-buying program as the economy recovered without generating concern over inflation.
