Sweden reopens rape case against Julian Assange

Posted online

Swedish prosecutors are moving to reopen a rape case against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

“After reviewing the preliminary investigation carried out so far, I find that there still exist grounds for Julian Assange to be suspected on probable cause of the charge of rape. It is my assessment that a new questioning of Assange is required," said Eva-Marie Persson, Sweden's deputy director of public prosecutions, noting extradition to the country from Britain is now allowed.

Prosecutors in 2017 dropped the investigation because they were not able to proceed while Assange remained at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. A Swedish woman in 2010 alleged Assange sexually assaulted her. He has denied the allegation.
