A Federal Reserve study indicates Americans are feeling better about their finances: Sixty-five percent of respondents said they were “living comfortably” or “doing OK,” up from 62 percent in the 2013 Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking.
However, asked about savings, and 47 percent said they wouldn’t be able to cover a $400 emergency expense or would have to borrow money or sell something, according to a Wall Street Journal blog. Also, 31 percent said they went without some form of medical care in the last year because they couldn’t afford it.
Taken by 5,800 people last fall, nearly 30 percent said they are in a better position financially than they were a year ago. Looking to the future, another nearly 30 percent said they expect higher income in the next year.
