Supermarkets are stockpiling inventory in anticipation of rising costs.
They're also seeing strong demand, with U.S. grocery sales rising 15% for the week ended June 19 compared with two years earlier, according to Jefferies and NielsenIQ data.
"We’re buying a lot of everything. Our inventories are up significantly over the same period last year," Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. CEO David Smith said.
