SunEdison files for bankruptcy

Maryland Heights solar energy company SunEdison yesterday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In its petition, the company reported assets of $20.7 billion and liabilities of $16.1 billion as of Sept. 30.

Also filing were 25 SunEdison subsidiaries.

Citing a person familiar with the matter, Reuters late last week reported SunEdison was planning to file for bankruptcy.

The news come nine months after the company was valued at $10 billion.
