Summer 2008 Project Report: Engineers: Scott Consulting Engineers PC

Posted online

Location: Harrison and Monroe Streets at John Q. Hammons Parkway

General Contractor: Hartman & Co. Inc. with construction manager J.E. Dunn Construction Co.

Estimated Cost: $1.35 million

Working with Ellerbe Becket Architects, Scott Consulting Engineers provided structural and civil engineering for improvements to storm-water drainage structures and detention near JQH Arena, now under construction. Working with the Springfield’s Public Works Department, Scott Consulting also provided storm-water modeling and design work. MSU and the city of Springfield are sharing costs for this project, which will relieve existing public street flooding and to help reduce overflow from downstream storm sewers. A concrete triple box detention basin under Hammons Parkway measures 395 feet long by 30 feet wide, and interior height of six feet. Additional detention is provided by seven runs of 310-foot-long, six-foot diameter corrugated steel pipe under the old soccer field south of JQH Arena. This work is part of a comprehensive drainage basin plan created for the city by Seattle-based Kramer Chin & Mayo Inc. Completion is expected this month.
