Jack Ball & Associates is the architect and interior designer for this school on 22 acres that also will accommodate athletic fields, a playground and required parking. Olsson Associates Inc. is the civil and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer, and Pinnacle Structures Inc. is the structural engineer. The Springfield R-XII School Board is pursuing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-silver certification, and sustainable features include high-efficiency heating, cooling and plumbing fixtures, as well as abundant daylighting. An insulated, translucent roof over hallways will bring sunlight to areas that typically would rely on artificial light. The school will be built primarily of masonry and precast concrete, and a permanent wetland basin on the northwest corner of the site will control quality and quantity of storm water, most of which will be reused on-site. Completion is slated for October 2010.
