Suddenlink buyer makes multibillion-dollar play for rival

Altice SA, the European telecom company that in May agreed to buy St. Louis-based Suddenlink Communications for $9.1 billion, has now offered to pay about $11.3 billion in cash for rival Bouygues Telecom.

Bouygues officials said the offer was unsolicited and its board would revieve it Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

The deal would merge two of the largest French mobile providers.
