Subway expects to add 8,000 more U.S. locations

Posted online
With more than 47,100 locations worldwide, Subway knocked McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MDC) off the top of the international fast-food heap a couple years ago. Now, the sandwich giant is poised to expand its American footprint even further.

With 26,000 U.S. locations already on the map, the franchise chain expects to add about 8,000 new domestic eateries.

Co-founder and CEO Fred DeLuca told Bloomberg, "Maybe it will take 10 years or so. If we do a good job building consumer demand, that number might change and be higher.”

Bloomberg also reports the chain is testing hummus – or mashed chickpeas – as a sandwich topping as it seeks to maintain its appeal among health-conscious consumers.
