Study: Manmade mass now outweighs life on Earth

Scientists released a study that found manmade materials now likely outweigh all natural life on Earth.

The weight of roads, buildings and other constructed or manufactured materials has reached 1.1 trillion metric tons. The natural world comprising trees, plants and animals is roughly 1 trillion metric tons, according to the study.

The mass of human-produced objects was just 3% of the weight of biomass at the start of the 20th century, scientists say.
