Streaming companies reduce quality in Europe due to coronavirus

YouTube and Netflix pledged to reduce streaming quality in the European Union to avoid internet gridlock amid quarantining.

Alphabet's YouTube will make videos appear in standard definition by default, rather than high definition.

European telecommunications providers Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom have reported spikes in data usage in recent days.
