Stockton Lake water pumps ready for installation

Posted online
A temporary system should begin pumping water from Stockton Lake to Springfield’s storage at McDaniel and Fellows lakes by the beginning of next week, City Utilities said Thursday.

Though predicted weekend rains could slow the system’s installation, City Utilities officials say they expect the process to run on schedule.

CU is renting a $650,000 barge and motors from Kansas City vendor Lee Mathews Equipment Inc. for 60 days to provide water until CU’s three pumps at Stockton Lake are repaired.

The temporary pumps will deliver between 12 million and 14 million gallons of water per day. CU, which also pumps water from the James River, averages per-day water usage of 32.4 million gallons.

McDaniel and Fellows lakes were at a combine storage level of 67.4 percent Thursday. This week’s 1.58 inches in rainfall had no impact on McDaniel Lake and only held Fellows Lake steady, CU said.
