The city of St. Louis has sued the state of Missouri in an attempt to block the takeover of the municipality's police department.
In the suit, the city of St. Louis alleges the law allowing the state to take over the police department violates the First Amendment and the Missouri Constitution.
Gov. Mike Kehoe signed the law last month.
