STL startup receives $1.5M grant to make bacteria for fuel

MOgene Green Chemicals has received a $1.5 million grant from the Department of Energy to engineer a bacteria that converts methane into liquid fuel according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

As part of the Department of Energy’s Reducing Emissions Using Methanotrophic Organisms for Transportation Energy program, 15 similar projects nationwide are to receive grants totaling $34 million.

MOgene Green Chemicals LLC was founded in 2010 as part of MOgene LC, a genomics services provider with 10 employees and revenue of $2 million last year. Previously, the company has received two $150,000 Phase I grants.
