A federal jury in St. Louis awarded nearly $47 million in damages to a man who filed suit over an injury caused by toxic chemicals.
Teddy Scott was working in 2015 near a northeast Missouri ammonium nitrate plant when toxic chemicals were released, according to the lawsuit. He inhaled the substance and since has suffered a condition that randomly causes his throat to close, his attorney said.
The plant’s owner, global explosives manufacturer Dyno Nobel, issued a statement indicating it would continue to operate with “a strong focus on the safety and health of our people, the communities in which we operate and the environment.”
