STL construction company founder dies at 77

Sam Hutchinson Jr., founder and chair of St. Louis-based Interface Construction Corp., died Jan. 8. He was 77.

Hutchinson founded the company in 1978. The St. Louis Business Journal reports Interface grew to become one of the region's largest minority-owned businesses. It had 75 employees and $57 million in 2018 revenue.

Interface's portfolio includes projects for the Saint Louis Zoo, Washington University and BJC HealthCare.
