The city of St. Louis is reportedly considering a data center ban.
A memo written by St. Louis Planning and Urban Design Agency Executive Director Don Roe for a Planning Commission meeting indicates the city's zoning code cannot adequately manage land use concerns brought on by data center projects.
Roe indicates in the memo that the city should act quickly to establish rules for data centers.
“A time-limited moratorium would mean that no new permits would be accepted while the city develops a full understanding of the issue and develops quality land use, environmental and other regulations,” Roe wrote. “This path may very well be in the public’s best interest.”
St. Charles last month put a yearlong ban on data center development into place.
