STL-area venture capitalist sentenced to prison for tax evasion

A Creve Coeur venture capitalist has been sentenced to five years in prison for tax evasion.

Burton Douglas Morriss, 50, pleaded guilty in August to attempting to dodge $2.9 million in taxes for calendar year 2007, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission also ordered a permanent injunction against Morriss in August, after the collapse of Acartha Group LLC and other VC firms started by Morriss.
