State’s minimum wage to rise 15 cents Jan. 1

Posted online
Missouri’s minimum wage will increase 15 cents to $6.65 per hour Jan. 1 to reflect a change in the Consumer Price Index.

Voters last year approved a minimum wage increase to $6.50 per hour, from $5.15, effective Jan. 1, 2007.

As part of the ballot initiative, the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is required to annually adjust the minimum wage based on changes in the CPI. The CPI rose 2.2 percent between July 2006 and July 2007, according to DOLIR.

All businesses – except retail and services businesses with annual gross volume sales or business less than $500,000 – are required to pay nonexempt employees the minimum wage.
