State unemployment stagnant in Q2

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. released its second quarter 2010 economic indicators, which show that Missouri’s unemployment is unchanged at 9.3 percent compared to the same time period a year earlier.

According to the report, the only jobs sector that saw an increase in the second quarter 2010 was government jobs, with a 2.1 percent gain compared to 2009. The sector that saw the largest decline was in other (non-manufacturing) goods-producing, with a drop of 14.4 percent between second quarter 2010 and second quarter 2009.

State banking trends for the second quarter of the year show a decline compared to a year earlier with number of institutions dropping to 341 compared to 349, according to the report, which also noted total assets increased to $133 million from $129.45 million.

Asset quality improved slightly, with a median percentage of past due and nonaccrual loans declining to 2.81 percent of total loans in the second quarter of 2010, compared to 2.83 in the second quarter of 2009, according to the FDIC report.
