State unemployment rate drops to 9.1%

Missouri's seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate decreased three-tenths of a percent in March to 9.1 percent, compared to 9.4 percent in February.

Missouri employers added 24,300 new jobs to nonfarm payrolls in March, on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Economic Development.

Several major Missouri industries reported job growth during March, including:
  • leisure and hospitality, 6,300 jobs.
  • retail trade, 5,800 jobs;
  • construction, 4,200 jobs;
  • professional and business services, 2,700 jobs; and
  • wholesale trade, 1,900 jobs.
