State treasurer's office gets clean audit

Posted online
The Missouri State Treasurer's Office has received a clean bill of health from the state auditor.

State Auditor Susan Montee released her office's audit of Treasurer Clint Zweifel's office this week, and the office received a report that did not include any findings of fault.

“I have been committed to running an administration focused on modernizing this office and making it more transparent as it invests in job creation and economic development," Zweifel said in a news release responding to the audit. "This audit is a reflection of the accountability I have strived to bring while performing my constitutional and statutory duties. We protect taxpayer money, we ensure there is liquidity for spending needs at all times and for the first time in 50 years we are achieving a fair rate of return for taxpayers."

The treasurer's office, according to the audit, is responsible for accounting and banking services, disbursements and records, investments and deposit programs for any state money not needed for current operating expenses, and unclaimed property.

According to the audit, the treasurer's office had fund balances of $589,688 at the end of the fiscal year, down $226,941 from the prior year. The audit attributed the decrease to a drop in revenues received by the state during the year.
