MMG Worldwide of Kansas City had been the advertising agency for the division for more than seven years. The firm was found to be in violation of a no-compete clause with Missouri after it recently became the agency of record for the Colorado state tourism division.
The contract cancellation agreement requires MMG Worldwide to continue as the division’s advertising agency until a new agency can be hired. The transition period is expected to take several months while the state issues a formal request for proposals from prospective agencies and an evaluation team assesses the bidders’ proposed marketing plans.
The division also will seek proposals from agencies to serve as its Web site provider and other fulfillment services, such as the distribution of the Official Missouri Vacation Planner, a guide to the state’s destinations and attractions.
Before the contract cancellation, MMG’s contract was set to expire June 30, 2007.
