State tax collections decrease in 2010

Government tax collections for all 50 states were $704.6 billion in fiscal 2010, a decrease of $14.3 billion compared to fiscal 2009, according to a news release from the U.S. Census Bureau.

In 2010, the 50 states' tax revenue on individual income was down 4.4 percent to $236.4 billion and general sales tax revenue was down 1.8 percent to $224.5 billion.

These taxes made up 70.8 percent of all state government tax collections nationwide, the release said.

Missouri's 2010 general sales tax revenue was down 3.7 percent to $2.9 billion, while its individual income tax revenue fell 9.3 percent to $4.3 billion.[[In-content Ad]]
