Posted online
Missouri recorded its highest-ever monthly collection of sales-tax net revenue in August, according to a report issued Wednesday by the state’s office of administration.

The $216 million in collections last month was the most collected in a single month. That record pushed year-to-date net general revenue collections for the state up 6.4 percent compared to the same period last year to $1.1 billion.

August revenue collections were up 7.1 percent compared to August 2005, at $649.7 million.

Corporate income and corporate franchise tax collections saw a 34.9 percent increase for the month but fell 16.2 percent for the year to date, from $46.6 million last year to $39 million.

Refunds showed significant decreases as well. Those collections were down 24.3 percent for the year to $71.9 million and down 18.6 percent for the month.

Individual income tax collections increased 4.8 percent for the year to date to $701.5 million and 3.2 percent in August.

Sales and use tax collections rose 0.9 percent, from $350.6 million last year to $353.9 million, and were up 0.4 percent for the month.

All other collections increased 23 percent for the year to $80.5 million and increased 44.5 percent for the month.
