State launches Web site for small-business owners

Posted online
Gov. Matt Blunt and Secretary of State Robin Carnahan have launched a Web site that guides entrepreneurs through the business startup process and helps them interact with government agencies.

The Missouri Business Portal, www.business.mo.gov, offers four areas of assistance: research, register, maintain and resources.

The research section allows entrepreneurs to research their business ideas and get assistance in writing business plans.

The register section guides users through contact points to complete all required registration forms for the state. It also gives links to cities and counties that help businesses comply with local regulations.

The maintain section provides information about filings, taxes, employee issues and steps required for ending a business.

The resources section gives information about raising capital, market development, employee concerns and environmental compliance.

The Web site is an initiative through Carnahan’s office; the state’s Economic Development, Labor and Industrial Relations and Revenue departments; the Office of Administration; and Missouri’s Small Business Development Centers.
