State homebuyer assistance grows in 2007

Posted online
Missouri funding for first-time homebuyer assistance in 2007 hit levels not seen in 15 years, Gov. Matt Blunt announced Friday.

This year, the Missouri Department of Economic Development provided the Missouri Housing Development Commission with $145 million of tax-exempt funding. That helped provide $300 million in home loans to about 3,000 first-time homebuyers.

Most first-time homebuyers also received 3 percent down-payment assistance.

Loans offered through the program are standard fixed-rate mortgages guaranteed by the Federal Housing Administration, Veterans Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program or Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac.

Funding for multi-family housing also was high in 2007 at $111 million in tax-exempt funds.[[In-content Ad]]
