State gas prices fall during holiday week

The average price of gasoline in Missouri fell 6.1 cents during the holiday week to $2.95 per gallon yesterday.

Comparatively, the U.S. average dropped 1.4 cents to $3.25 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy.com news release.

Missouri's gas average yesterday was 3.1 cents higher than a month ago but 19.5 cents lower than a year ago. The national average is down 1.3 cents from last month and 14.2 cents from last year.

"With Thanksgiving behind us, it appears that a nominal decline in retail gasoline prices will ring in the first week of December for most parts of the country," said Gregg Laskoski, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in the release.

Missouri held the second-lowest gas average in the nation this morning, landing behind Oklahoma, with an average of $2.92 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.com's list of the lowest gas averages in the nation. Hawaii was most expensive, with an average of $3.89 per gallon.

As of 11:01 a.m., the lowest price of gas in Missouri was $2.73 per gallon, available at three filling stations in Osage Beach. The highest price, $3.49 per gallon, was selling at a station in Ladue, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

Springfieldians could find the least expensive gas in the city for $2.79 per gallon at the Sam's Club stores at 3660 E. Sunshine St. and 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $92.72 per barrel as of 11:02 a.m. Light sweet crude oil futures for January were trading at $93.60 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
