State Farm: Show-Me State ranks 8th in lightning claims

A report released yesterday by State Farm found Missouri ranked eighth in the number of claims paid out over lightning damage.
In 2015, the insurance company accepted 763 claims by Missourians. It paid out $4.8 million statewide, which is over $1 million higher than the previous year. The average claim in 2015 was $6,323, according to a news release.
Nationally, State Farm paid out more than $155 million last year for lightning-strike claims.
The Top 10 states, by paid claims, including the amount paid and average per claim, are:
1. Georgia: 2,718; $15.9 million; $5,844
2. Texas: 1,789; $17.2 million; $9,595
3. Louisiana: 1,391; $6.4 million; $4,578
4. Alabama: 1,264; $7.9 million; $6,280
5. Illinois: 916; $5.8 million; $6,316
6. Tennessee: 791; $5.7 million; $7,212
7. Florida: 774; $10.2 million; $13,131
8. Missouri: 763; $4.8 million; $6,323
9. North Carolina: 750; $5.1 million; $6,810
10. Arkansas: 721; $6.1 million; $8,491
Last on the list was Alaska, which had no lightning-strike claims, according to the release.
