State exchanges see November surge

After a slow start in October, where the federal government had counted 106,000 people enrolled into private coverage through the 14 new state-based marketplaces and the federal marketplace, the health care exchanges appear to be gaining traction.

Through mid-November, that number had just about doubled to more than 200,000, according to the Washington Post.

News of the surge comes as the Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday it is extending the deadline to sign up for coverage that begins right at the start of the new year to Dec. 23 from Dec. 15.
