The Missouri Department of Revenue issued the city of Springfield a 1 percent sales tax check for January of $3.9 million.
The total beats the January 2015 check of $3.7 million by roughly 6 percent. The latest issued funds represent sales processed by the state in December from transaction made in the city primarily in November, according to a news release.
City officials had budgeted $3.5 million for January, making the actual check 13 percent above projections.
For the city’s fiscal year, the latest check brings the total up to $25.2 million through January, a 3 percent increase compared to the same time a year earlier.
Roughly 60 percent of Springfield’s general fund revenue comes from sales and use taxes, according to the release.
